What is Organic Traffic?
Organic traffic is the term given to visitors that come to your site through natural means. In other words, free traffic. It is free in the sense that you did not pay for advertising to bring them to your site. If you have had a website for any length of time you will know that organic traffic is not really free. It takes considerable know-how and man hours to bring customers to your website. You don’t just create a site and the traffic floods through the doors the minute you are open for business.
Where does Organic Traffic come from?
There are three ways organic traffic can find your site:
- Search engine traffic: By positioning your site well in the search engines people can find you when they perform a search in any of the major search engines; namely, Google, Yahoo and Bing.
- Referral traffic: Is any visitors that come to your site through a link from another website. This may be the result of link building, forum signatures, blog commenting and natural external links from other webmasters who have found your site relevant and important enough to place your link on their web site.
- Social media marketing and networking: This traffic source comes from social media sites such as YouTube, podcast, article marketing and from networking sites such as FaceBook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other similar sites.
Getting Organic Traffic is not difficult but it does take SEO knowledge and a considerable amount of work.
